Chair makeover

Chairs are expensive...did you know that? So when you build a table that needs TEN chairs that will cost you TONS of money right??? Nope, it doesn't have to. It will take A LOT of BLOOD, sweat and tears!

Here is what the chairs looked like.....

And here is the after.....

We went with a distressed look to match our rustic farm table.

We paid $37.50 for the 10 chairs at "Restore" and about $40 on the materials for the redo. That makes it less than $10 a chair. Not too bad!

I have to say that Levi and Lucy have really become DOUBLE TROUBLE! The worst as of late was a lard incident....Now I don't use lard on a regular basis. In fact the only time of year I buy it is at Christmas to make my Grandmother's traditional cookies. So I left the room for about two minutes and when I came back L&L were covered (and my carpet too) in LARD!!! I have no idea where it was or how they got it but they did:(

This was the first Christmas we (the Todd & Dorothy family) spent together in a few years! My siblings all spent the night and it was like we were kids again. It was nice to have everyone at home (except for Ryan, he was at work).

This was our Christmas morning as Ryan had to work on the real day.

It's not very often that Ryan's family gets to all be together so we were very excited that the whole gang would be together for a few days! Ryan's mom and dad rented a great lodge for the family to stay at so we could all be together.

This thing tried to kill me! When we first got to the lodge the driver put out a stool for everyone to step on to get out. Well the stool slipped out from under me and I landed on my shoulder. My shoulder was hurting so bad I didn't notice until later that my entire thigh was bruised too:( It has been over a month and my shoulder still hurts really bad(ugh...I messed it up)!!!!!
We all took some tumbles in sledding, skiing, snowmobiling, but we were having too much fun to let it bring us down! Thank you to everyone who made it fun and a big thank you to D&D for making it happen!

Ezra has been wondering when his birthday party would be ever since he saw me working on stuff for L&L's birthday party. It's hard to explain to a little guy that we don't get big parties every year. I am a big first birthday kind of a girl. After that I do family (just the people that live under my roof) parties until the kids are older and let them have some friends from school and church over. Like I said little guys don't understand this and he saw all the work I put into L&L's party, it didn't seem fair to leave him party-less! So I decided to do something small....real small i.e. his cousin Ivy and the Morris kids. The Morris family just moved over to our side of town!!!!! I am so excited! Her kids are older than Ezra but they are so sweet to him and really make him feel special!!! Just how you want to feel on your birthday.

I wanted to make it simple and not spend too much. The kids watched the new Cars movie and had a picnic (big blanket in front of the T.V.) while Stacie and I enjoyed each others company. It was great!!!

I saw this cute sandwich idea online. The kids thought it was pretty cool!

When I asked Ezra what he wanted to have at his his party he said "rollie balls" i.e. cheese balls....you know those crunchy, greasy, disgustingly delicious things that come in a HUGE tub at your local bulk store. Yes, those. The kids went NUTS over them. Stacie also tries to feed her kids healthy so it was a big treat!

I am a HUGE fan of Disneyland!!! I just LOVE it!!! We were supposed to go (had a room reserved and everything) last Christmas but decided going with a almost two year old and TWO four month olds would not be a good idea! Even though I knew it really wouldn't work I was still heartbroken. I would see commercials and be sad. And, to top it off, one day I put on a jacket and it had Disney papers from our last visit. Needless to say I was thrilled we got to go this year!

So, Disneyland is not as much fun with three little kids....I'm just being honest. I loved some cute moments with the kids but I'd really like to go with just Ryan. It was hard watching three kids while Ryan would ride and it's kind of a bummer riding alone:( Now that I put that out there lets talk about the fun!!!!!

We left when Ryan got home from work. It worked out nice to feed the kids dinner get jammies on and hope in the car.

For the longest time I've heard of the really amazing candy canes that are made at Disneyland, but I've never seen them made. The candy canes are only made on certain days and can only be made if the weather is good. Every time I've gone to see them I've either just missed it or the weather was bad. Each time I've missed it has only made me want to see it more! I didn't think I would be able to see it this trip because I thought they only made them on Saturday. Well I was wrong! We arrived to Disneyland over an hour early (it was an accident....read the wrong day's opening times). There was a pre-line but I had no idea why. Well it was CANDY CANE making day!!!! WHAT!?!? So this is the deal they only make a certain amount and you have to get in the park as fast as possible to get in another line (yes we are up to three lines now!!!) and get a wrist band to be able to buy one. Well once I found out I had a chance to not only see the candy canes being made but I could buy one, I HAD to have one! I know how crazy this sounds!!!"I've waited my whole life for this."

I was chasing after the boys when all of a sudden I couldn't see Ezra! He had run away following bubbles into the Bug Land. WHAT A SCARE!!!!! As fast as I could I picked up Levi and pushed the stroller Lucy was in to run and find Ezra. He was just fine.

BLACK FRIDAY!!!! I love it!!!!! I must say that I totally won Black Friday. I got everything on my list!!! But this is not a post about my shopping, this is a post about later on that day after I got a little (little) sleep.

My Aunt Lisa and Uncle Doug were still in town so we headed over to The Bass Pro shop together.

Thanksgiving morning no sleeping in here....I was up at 5am working on the rolls:)
My mom and I participated in a "Turkey Trot" I did a 5k and My mom did the 10k. Good job Mom!!!

Because of weird work schedules the whole family (Todd and Dorothy family) would not be together on Thanksgiving, so we had a pre Thanksgiving feast. It was also nice to be able to have my Granddad and Aunt over. My camera died after only two photos but I'm sure you get the idea.....

Ryan surprised me the weekend before my birthday with a one night stay at a hotel. I have NEVER spent the night away for any of my kids!!!! It was nice to have a little (less than 24 hour) break! At the hotel I got a massage in the spa, fancy!

On my birthday we went out to lunch at Pei Wei then frozen yogurt and Maggiano's for dinner. If you don't know you can sign up for lots of different birthday clubs online and you get coupons for free stuff for your birthday f.y.i.

Race 4 Rob

I've been in a few 5Ks now but this one was really special! Most races are for some sort of charity but this one was really close to home for me. This was a race to raise money for a family friend Rob Hale. Rob's dad was my stake president (a church leader) for many years, his brother was one of my close friends in high school and his mom and sister were skin care clients of mine. I LOVE the Hale family!!!!! Rob graduated from the UNLV dental program and then went on to Texas to for specialty training (another TWO years). When he was about a month out from graduating he suffered a brain aneurysm and a stroke. Through the grace of God he is not only alive he is progressing more and more each day toward living a normal life! Miracles have happened!!!! He is doing well but still has a long journey! Of course there are many, many medical bills, plus just paying for everyday life. He is married and has two little boys. To find more information please visit http://helpingthehales.blogspot.com/

It was so wonderful to participate in a fun event for a wonderful cause! It was a blast seeing some old friends!!! Now as for my running......I finished in under 30 min!!!!!!! This was my goal:) My last 5k was on October 22nd. I cut FIVE minutes off my time in less than a month! YAY me! I've been running two day a week with a running group from church and I've also been going to aerobics classes at church 2-3 days a week. I am loving it!!!

Why I HATE daylight savings....

I remember the days when I thought the "falling back" part of day light savings was SO awesome...That was before children!!! So my kids haven't been doing great with sleeping as it is and then this whole day light savings thing through another wrench into things! Lucy and Levi were both up before 4 A.M.!!! I was at my cousins birthday party the night before so I was even more tired than normal. I was already very anti day light savings and then this happened......

Lucy broke my clock! I took the clock off the wall to change the time (because of the DUMB day light savings) well I was late getting my siblings to school so I left the clock (out of child reach) til I could get back and hang it. While I was gone Lucy through the toy truck from the second floor braking the clock...REALLY? Let me just say NONE of this would have happened if there were no day light savings......I'm just sayin'!

There is a museum in Henderson that is dedicated to one of my Granddad's former art students. The owners contacted my Grandad because they wanted to do a art show to honor him. It was a lovely event! My Grandad is a award winning artist, inventor of The Funny Brush (an art tool), published writer and art teacher.

After Halloween deals

I LOVE a good deal!!!! Ryan needed to pick up a couple of things at Wal-mart and when we got there they had just announced that ALL the Halloween stuff was 25 CENTS! This did exclude costumes but the were only a dollar! So we went shopping!!!!

We spent $15 and got a ton of stuff! The pumpkins (10) are the kind you plug in to light up.

October was such a fun month! We did so many fun things! I didn't get any pictures on Halloween:( Ryan was a Mad scientist and looked awesome! He just put a few things together last minute and it just looked great! The kids had fun trick-or-treating! I bought Ezra one of those plastic orange pumpkins because every time we went to the store he begged for one. The day I came home with it he was so excited! We dressed the kids up in their outfits from the twins birthday and they were a hit. Levi and Lucy would walk up to the door and take the candy from the people. After a little while the babies were tired so Ryan took them home....Can I just say being able to trick-or-treat in your own neighborhood is AWESOME!!!! Ezra had a BLAST and stayed out much later than I thought he would. It was fun to see the houses that went all out. I love the people who had their garages open and were just hanging out waiting for us! There was a haunted house at one stop, fun! Most houses handed out chocolate two of which handed out full sized candy bars and I got a bath and body works hand sanitizer! I call that a good haul! Ezra was allowed to have one piece of candy and the rest magically disappeared. I fill his pumpkin full of other treats and he spent the morning of November 1st eating them all.

This was a fun print on line that I framed.

We had a dinner party with two of the best David and Karen. We had broccoli cheese soup and garlic bread. After we stuffed ourselves we played some games. It must be known that the girls kicked booty!

We played the eating donuts on a string game and realized that you need to use big donuts to play with adults, as Ryan and Aaron pulled theirs off in one bite!

Our ward had a chili cook off with some games for the kids. We had a great evening tasting all different kinds of chili! Mine and my Mom's got some honorable mentions but I can't remember what it was. My Mom made a white chill and I made a CHOCOLATE chipotle chili (our best bites), both were very tasty!

Ivy helped feed the babies....it's a full time job!

Ezra liked playing the games but his favorite part was the prize.....

Ryan's grandparents live in a little town in Arizona called Joesph City. As we were driving I told Ezra we were going to his town because his middle name is Joesph. As we were driving he asked "Are we in my town?"

This was the first time Ryan's grandparents were able to meet the kids! It was fun living the slow, small town life, except when Lucy had a fever and there was nothing open at 8:00pm and it was a 15+ min drive to get to a store. Living in Vegas has spoiled me in that way.

In the back yard at G&G Petersen's there is a garden. Here are some butternut squash.

There was a cold spell so they covered the pumpkins with blankets to protect them

Ezra picked a green tomato and Levi started eating, grandpa said "That might not taste too good, why don't you get rid of that and we'll get some good food." Levi threw the tomato on the ground and ran to the kitchen. Grandpa got a real kick out of that!

We had such a great time going to the pumpkin patch I couldn't wait to take Ryan on his day off! Well It was not the same experience......

I was windy, cold, the kids were not so happy (I'm sure because of the two things I just mentioned) and they weren't making their fresh apple cider donuts (Yes, they were delicious). I completely felt like I mislead my sweet husband:( We did still manage to have some fun!

Right down the street from our new house there is a great farm. They grow different fruits and vegetables all through the year. The day we went was very exciting because it was opening day of their pumpkin patch. I LOVE pumpkins!!!!! It was so fun because you actually pick your pumpkins off the vine! It was a absolutely beautiful day!!!
